The Student Union By—Elections officially started yesterday, wednesday, Sept. 27th, when nominations were opened. ,

Now this article is supposed to be an editorial and not a notice or a news column but I feel the student elections are important enough to deserve mention, if not some sort of criticism.

It seems that over the past few yearS~ student elections at UPEI have abnays had prtblems, be it lack of Electoral Officers, lack of nominees, poorly run or organized campaigns, (Immolaints of unfairness, rumors of dirty campaigns, and so on. .

Well, it seems that once again UPEI is heading for prtblems. Nominations opened yesterday and there is of yet no Electoral Officer. Whose fault is this? Where does the blame lie? Who knows! The Student union executive say that Personnel Board are supposed to hire the Electoral Officer but due to a technicality they are ynable to do so for another week or two. The Student Council perhaps should have appointed an interim one at their last council meeting but unfortunately this was overlooked. Last year's Electoral Officer is not back at UPEI and,last of all, and perhaps most important of all, nobody has shown an interest in the position.

The Personnel Board has advertised.this position in the first two issues of the SUN, but as yet nobody has shown an interest.

Why hasn't anyone applied? It is an interesting job, a good way to find out what's going on, and also an excelletn way to become involved in the Student Union.

As I've already stated, nominations opened on wednesday, Sept. 27th. All a person has to do is to go to the Student Union office in the Barn and pick up an applicaticn form. This form1mmst.be turned in before 5:00 p.m. on October 4th. Once all ncmunation forms are in, and forms will ngt_be accepted after 5 p.m., the election campaign will be explained to the delegates; '

campaign week runs from 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4th, to 12 midnight of October 10th. All posters and campaign signs must be down at this time or the delegate will be disqualified.

MEdnesday, Octdber llth will be Election Day. Polls open in the Library from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Positions open in the elections include (1) 4 class presidents; (2) 1 Board of

Governors Rep.; (3) 3 Senate Raps; (4) 2 Arts Esps. Dear Sir-l with one U.P.E.I. s.'U.
