White of Miiinc, has, sailed for London to attend thc International Convention for Safety of Lite at Sea, which opened April 16. The‘ first such conference war in id following the Titanic disaster in 1912, m which 1,500 persons lost their livcs, and it is noted that thi present conference shortly after the sinking of _thc steamship Vestris, with loss of many lives. The conference was called. however, before the tragedy of the Vestrls.

Those attending the conference. while realizing that absolute safety at see is impossible, will direct their efforts to making travel on the high seas as safe as possible. Improved radio equipment, especially automatic devices which register calls for aid that may be used on small vessels without operators always /oii duty. will he considered. as will the use of lifcboets and small boats and rafts.

y The late Mrs. Richard before her marriage had taught in the public schools of the province for several years. In this occupation she had been very successful and had made many friends. Besides her sorrowing husband, there are left to mourn six young children; Edward, Marie, Jos- eph, Doricc, Alcide and Sylvere, her aged father and mother Mr. and Mrs. Dominick Gallant of Duvar; three brothers, Joseph E. and Gilbert of Winnipeg, Man. and Dorice of Du- var; and three sisters, Mrs. Anthony Doiron, of Detroit, Mlch., Mrs. J. H. Blanchard of Charlottetown, and Mrs. John F. Gallant of Piusville. Two other brothers predeceased her; Aubin who was drowned in August,

BOSTON, April ifL-The course in aviation recently inaugurated by the University Extension of the Mass- achusetts State Department of Edu- cation is open not only to the other states in the union and United States possessions but to residents of Can- ada as well. '

In less than a month more than four hundred inquiries have been re- ceived regarding the correspondepee course. The eeroniiutic course is the. only ohe of its kind offered by e pub- ltc institution. It includes the topics covered by ‘the United states Depart- ment of Commerce for mechanics’ and pilots’ licensee and is equivalent to the ground school technical train- ing usually given to candidates for pilots’ and mechanics’ positions .
