stein breeders came through with the major share of the champion- ship ribbons awarded on the first day of the breed show at the Maritime Winter Fair today but nobody was able to establish any definite superiority in the number of victories in the individual classes. Classes were consistently heavy throughout the day and the competition as keen as has been seen in many years. Oswald J. Newton and Son of Kingston had three first places to their credit. including the female junior champ- ion, when a hall. was called to the first day's proceediius. Lewis Brothers had two firsts and two championships. Colby Lewis had one, and all three of them were strong in the runner-up positions. Macxmley Brothers of North Wiilshire had one first with one animal in .the show.

Allison Profitt had a share in s first place winner. Courtney Bi Lusby of Amherst had two red ribbons. Dickie Brothers had the same number of first placings. A. D, Neill of Fredericton was the other red ribbon in the classes for the first day. Cows in milk will be shown on Wednesday and the herd and progeny classes will be completed.
