Norwegians Fear Whaling industry May Be Vanishing

Before the war, both Japan and Germany tried- in vain to over- take Norway in whaling. Now Ger- many has no floating factories left, while Japan has put i/wo into service again. Britain has four, The Netherlands one, and the So- viet Union one.

Norway is miffed at eh, United States for allowing the Japanese to get back into the business, and was shocked when some sources tried to get money from the Eur- opean Recovery Progmm for new Germany floating factories.

During 1948, says the annual re- port, the cccnpan “found naore crude oil, produce more oil, trans- ported. refined. distributed and marketed more oil and products than even- before." Nevertheless:

Capital expenditures for plant and equipment totalled 536.591.9111 up 371,933 from 1947.

Altogether, funds brought into the business during the year amounted to 57130589, including proceeds from ain issue of debentur- es, from sale of’ holdings in Inter- national Petroleum 00., Md, and other investments.
