About Constitutionalist
The Constitutionalist's chief preoccupations throughout its brief publishing history were the criticism of Lieutenant Governor Sir Henry Vere Huntley and the defense of the then Family Compact member, Joseph Pope, following his expulsion from the Executive Council. Allegedly, the paper was the
organ of Joseph Pope himself. While nominally supporting reform, the paper fiercely attacked the liberal members of the House of Assembly and the liberal paper the Morning News and Semi-Weekly Advertiser. Aside from these political concerns, which occupied much of the space in its columns, the
Constitutionalist printed foreign and local news, fiction and advertisements.
