About La Voix Acadienne de L'Isle-Du-Prince-Edouard
La Voix Acadienne, a French language newspaper, began publication on June 27, 1975. It was originally funded by a grant from the Secretary of State to the Société Saint-Thomas d'Aquin
to publish a paper for the summer months employing students. The popularity of the paper led to its continuation after the original project had ended.
La Voix Acadienne published mainly provincial and local news of particular interest to P.E.I.'s Acadian population. Occasionally national news regarding francophones was also published.
A number of columns appeared in the paper, including columns on religion, highway safety, and P.E.I, history. Articles on Acadian culture and cuisine appeared regularly in the paper, along with a children's page, horoscopes, sports and television listings. Editorials promoted Acadian culture, commented on current events and expressed special concern for French language education.
