About Island Farmer
The Island Farmer was established in 1974 as an independent source of P.E.I. agricultural information. It printed news of the agricultural industry, features on people in agriculture, news of exhibitions, and descriptions of government services and educational opportunities. A number of columns have appeared in teh Island Farmer, including the newsletter of the Federation of Agriculture, a, during the 1980s, the newsletter of the P.E.I. Hog Commodity Marketing Board. Editorials during the 1970s expressed doubt about the Comprehensive Development Plan, defended farmers from attacks on high food prices, and suggested improvements to the P.E.I. agricultural industry. During the early 1980s, the enforcement of the P.E.I. Lands Protection Act was a particular concern. Political cartoons and classified advertisements were both printed in the Island Farmer.
