The Chief Justice delivered a written decision holding that the election was void on account of cor- rupt practices by agents of Gallant, and on these points agreed with Mr. Justice Hodgson who iirst tried the case. In the second place the Chief Justice disagreed with the finding of the trial judge in holding that Gallant had personally bribed Colo Arsenault. 'I`he Chief Justice held that the money was given as a loan. and was not a corrupt act. I., will be pained to hear of his sudden death, which occurred after only afew days ill- ness on the 4th inst. It is only a year since Mrs. Hardy had to endure the sorrow of parting with her eldest daughter. To her and the bereaved children her many Island friends ex- tend their eincere sympathy. The lecturer began with a brief geographical description and his- torical review of Ireland. A large number of stereopticon views were presented,showing the beautiful scenery and the chief historical places. The lecture was interspersed with numerous Irish jokes and anecdotes for which the Island is famous. At the conclusion of the lecture a vote of thanks was tender- ed to the lecturer and Mr. Morrison, who managed theviews, to which Mr. Fullerton suitably responded.
